How many people can claim to have eaten in the crypt of an 18th century Greek Orthodox church? Well, to be honest, anyone who’s visited the Malmaison can impress their friends with this rather extraordinary (but entirely true) boast. Not only does this converted building ooze character (stylish and modern with a soupcon of gothic) but the food is pretty distinctive as well. It’s a quirky mix of Gallic and Celtic cuisine, served in a suitably laid back way by staff who know their onions, so to speak. Far be it from us to suggest your next meal, but the rainbow trout stuffed with wild mushroom and bacon beurre noisette should be enough to get all you Francophiles queuing along West George Street to reserve a table here. And after your meal don’t forget the simplicity of Malmaison’s Champagne Bar for a spot of bubbly in classy surroudings – why not?

Free room hire for private dinners on weekdays and all lunch times.
